Movie bigshot FOX is no stranger to surprises and it seems like 2018 is a year that will prove just that.

Rumors are currently swirling around online detailing a new movie from the "X-men" franchise that is currently in the works and is set to be top-billed by none other than fan-favorite mutant Kitty Pryde.

According to Deadline, the movie will be a joint-project between comic book legend Brian Michael Bendis and "Deadpool" director Tim Miller.

Bendis will be writing the script for the movie while, of course, Miller will take the responsibility of directing the movie.

The plot of the standalone film will feature one of Pryde's first appearances in the "X-Men" comic book series: "The Uncanny X-Men" volume 143 titled "Demon." This particular chapter also oversaw her first titular role in the mutant comic book series.

The comic book issue sees Pryde (Shadowcat) alone inside the X-Mansion during Christmas Eve and coming face -to-face with a demon.

Metro UK points out that the movie's atmosphere is reminiscent of Ridley Scott's 80s blockbuster hit "Alien," with the demon even sharing similar traits with the xenomorph.

In the previous films, Ellen Page played Kitty Pryde's character but currently, there have been no confirmations nor talks about who will play the lead role in the new standalone film, and this is partly due to FOX incorporating younger actors into its recent movie outings.

In contrast with this yet-to-be confirmed project, FOX has announced release dates for two movies in the same franchise namely "New Mutants" due on 2019 and "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" set to drop on November 2018.

Kitty Pryde has been among the most favored characters in the "X-Men" franchise. She first made an appearance in "The Uncanny X-Men" series and has been one of the primary heroines in the popular comic book series.
