The first character photos for the sophomore season of "Wayward Pines" have been released, providing fans with an idea about what to look forward to after the bloody resolution in the season 1 finale.

The photos exclusively shared by Entertainment Weekly revealed the first glimpse of the show's newest protagonist, Dr. Theo Yedlin (Jason Patric), a surgeon who wakes up from long years of suspended animation in the town that is going through a bloody rebellion.

According to the character description, Theo will struggle to understand the events happening in the strange town of Wayward Pines and will help in preserving the dwindling human population. He will be joined by his wife Rebecca (Nimrat Kaur) as they begin their new life in a new neighborhood.

Theo will be helped by original Wayward Pines resident and historian CJ Mitchum (Djimon Hounsou). CJ knows a lot about the secrets of Wayward Pines, and he will come up with a very important decision regarding the mysterious town in the upcoming season.

Other new characters that will be introduced in "Wayward Pines" season 2 include the composed but tough member of the new Wayward Pines brain trust Kerry Campbell (Kacey Rohl) and the charismatic guy named Xander (Josh Helman), who will investigate the town's secrets from within.

The characters from the previous season who survived the attack of the abbies include Jason Higgins (Tom Stevens), the town's new sheriff who strongly admires the leadership of David Pilcher (Toby Jones). He will be joined by former hypnotherapist and Wayward Pines Academy principal Megan Fisher (Hope Davis), who continues to be a part of the scientific research on the abbies and is developing the hearts and minds of humanity's next generation.

Reports say that season 1 characters Sheriff Arnold Pope (Terrence Howard), Nurse Pam (Melissa Leo), Kate Hewson (Carla Gugino), Pilcher, Therese Burke (Shannyn Sossamon) and his son Ben (Charlie Tahan) will appear in the upcoming season. However, there is no word regarding the possible return of Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) in season 2 even as part of some flashback scenes.

"Wayward Pines" season 2 premieres on Fox on Wednesday, May 25.
