'Wayward Pines' season 2 news: Fans still waiting for show's renewal

The complete season 1 DVD of FOX's "Wayward Pines" had been finally shipped last week, but fans of M. Night Shyamalan's directorial debut on television are still waiting for the network's announcement for a sophomore season.

"Wayward Pines" became one of the most successful series that debut on FOX last season, and its popularity never weaned since a lot of people are still talking about it months after its final episode aired in July. But will it ever get a second season order?

The 10-episode season 1 was based on the Blake Crouch's novels with the same title, and Shyamalan explained that they manage to cover the books' winning plot all throughout the season. But the famed director admitted that he and the author also have a prepared concept in case a second season will be ordered by FOX.

"I knew where we were heading for the finale and so we could architecture the 10-episodes in that manner. So, I am happy to walk away, especially with such a wonderful reaction and all that stuff. But honestly, Blake and I do have an idea," Shyamalan said as quoted by Cinema Blend.

The series is known to have a slight similarity with the plot of the 1990's serial drama "Twin Peaks" because of their small town drama and mystery. But a report from Youth Health Mag pointed out that Shyamalan's first TV show foray could even surpass the achievements of one of Time's "Best TV Shows of All-TIME."

But while waiting for the second season announcement, fans of "Wayward Pines" can just enjoy watching the past 10 episodes of the series via the DVD that FOX recently released. It can be purchased on Amazon for a discounted amount of $19.88 instead of its original price of $29.98.

"Wayward Pines" starred Matt Dillon as US Secret Service agent Ethan Burke, Carla Guigino as former agent Carla Gugino, Shannyn Sossamon as Ethan's wife Theresa Burke, and Terrence Howard as Sheriff Arnold Pope.
