'Wayward Pines' season 2: FOX considering new cast members for second season?

The cast of Wayward Pines season one.

Now that they have learned the truth about the mystery surrounding Wayward Pines, it seems that Ethan, Theresa, Ben, and the rest of the residents of the town will have to move out if the FOX network will decide to bring "Wayward Pines" back for season 2.

In an exclusive report by Deadline, the M. Night Shyamalan-directed sci-fi thriller had picked up its audience share after earning almost double of its demo delivery in Live+3, gathering a record-breaking percentage DVR increase for a FOX season opener and a 2014-2015 new series debut from any network.

Because of the surprising performance of the series, FOX is starting to be interested in ordering another season of "Wayward Pines." But since the first season was filmed over two years ago, speculations claim that the second season will feature a different set of cast members and characters but in the same setting. It means that lead actor Matt Dillon, as well as the other cast members like Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo, and Carla Gugino might not return in the show.

According to the report, the executives from FOX will sit down with the show's creative team to discuss how they can come up with another season of "Wayward Pines."

However, AV Club noted that it would be a challenge to conceptualize a second season for the show. The plot of the 10-episode series is based on the trilogy written by Blake Crouch. The first novel titled "Pines" was tackled in the first five episodes of the series, while the second and third novels titled "Wayward" and "The Last Town" will be featured in the last five episodes.

This week's episode of "Wayward Pines," dubbed as "Betrayal," will show how Ethan (Dillon) will attempt to divulge the truth about the town to his wife Theresa (Shannyn Sossamon) and Kate (Gugina), but the two will not believe him at first. He will also discover that his car had been planted with a bomb. Is it the same bomb that Kate and Harold (Reed Diamond) held last episode?

"Wayward Pines" airs every Thursday.
