'Venom' movie spoilers: Spinoff to feature flashbacks scenes set in Asia

Spider-Man as the Venom symbiote's host in "Spider-Man 3" Columbia Pictures

As production for "Venom" is officially underway, details about the "Spider-Man" spinoff have started to surface. The latest one reveals that some scenes will be set in Asia.

A casting call picked up by IGN writer Christopher M says that the movie is looking for "villagers without modern haircuts." He claimed "#Venom will spend some time in Asia" but noted that he is not certain whether those scenes will be filmed in modern times. Accompanying his tweet is a GIF from Stanley Kubrick's legendary Vietnam War film, "Full Metal Jacket."

According to ScreenRant, this could mean that Sony is in need of extras with old-fashioned haircuts for a scene that takes place from the past. It is reportedly possible that the Asian scenes will particularly be set in Vietnam where the Venom Symbiote wreaks havoc before it merges with its infamous host Eddie Brock in New York.

There are reports that Brock would be a war photographer in the movie who will pick up the symbiote while visiting a foreign country. Unfortunately, the plot of the film is still a mystery, so this is a mere suggestion at this point. Whatever the case though, the publication notes that the film's version of Brock will have to pick up the symbiote somewhere since Spider-Man would not appear in the spin-off to give it to him.

Tom Hardy will play reporter-turned-Spider-Man nemesis Eddie Brock while Michelle Williams would portray the female lead, a district attorney and possible love interest of Hardy's character.

Also attached to star in the spinoff are "Gifted" star Jenny Slate and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" actor Riz Ahmed. Slate is reportedly playing the role of a scientist while Ahmed is rumored to portray another notorious host of the alien symbiote, Carnage.

"Venom" is set to be released on Oct. 5, 2018.
