'Vanquish 2' Xbox One rumors: Sequel to sci-fi, action game to drop exclusively for Xbox One

"Vanquish 2" rumored to be in the works for an Xbox exclusive release YouTube/SEGA

The successor to popular sci fi, action game "Vanquish," originally released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, is currently in the works and is set to be an Xbox One exclusive title, an inside source tells.

According to self-professed industry insider Marcus Sellars, "Vanquish 2," the sequel to 2010's third-person shooter, is indeed being developed by Platinum Games -- the same studio that brought first fast-paced iteration into the gaming scene almost eight years ago.

However, besides this confirmation, Sellars did not reveal additional details regarding the intended sequel plot-wise, gameplay style, or even a window launch date.

Game Rant argues that while Sellars has been able to accurately predict a handful of in-development games, it is no reason to take this new information as truth. But seeing as Microsoft has developed quite a close relationship with game creator Platinum Games, Sellars' claim of "Vanquish 2" dropping exclusively to the Xbox One console is not far-off from the truth.

Another point that they highlighted is "Vanquish's" addition to the Xbox backward compatibility program a few weeks ago.

With regard to who will be directing the game sequel, other reports shared that the new title will not be directed by Shinji Mikami, original director of the game, as he has defected from Platinum games and has been in charge of his own studio Tango Works -- notable for the "Evil Within" series.

Platinum games has yet to confirm whether "Vanquish 2" is really in the stage of development. No other details have also been released regarding the sequel's release date.

In other news, Platinum Games released "Vanquish" into the PC platform last year with the addition of enhancements and graphical improvements.

The fast-paced shooting game "Vanquish" first debuted into the video game scene in 2010. It was met with relatively positive reviews attributed to its unique gameplay style and comprehensive and in-depth storyline. It was released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
