'Uncharted 4' news: Plunder multiplayer mode revealed

"Uncharted 4" will feature a mode familiar to fans of the franchise. The upcoming title is getting a multiplayer mode called Plunder, which is an upgraded version of the infamous multiplayer modes in "Uncharted 2" and "Uncharted 3."

Plunder is simply a "Capture the Flag type game mode," but the flag here is an idol. Players are tasked to locate the idol and successfully secure it in their home treasure chest. Players are allowed to throw the idol to a teammate when they find themselves in a precarious position.

For "Uncharted 4," Naughty Dog made some changes in Plunder to set it apart from the multiplayer modes in the previous "Uncharted" titles. To begin with, teams participating in the mode will only allow four members, instead of five as how it was before.

"No doubt this may cause shortness of breath for fans of the mode, but worry not! Given the number of mechanics that have been introduced into our multiplayer's moment-to-moment gameplay, Plunder at four vs. four is perfect," Naughty Dog assured.

According to PlayStation Lifestyle, who got to try out the mode, the decrease in the number of players did not affect that fun and chaos the multiplayer mode is known for.

In Plunder, players carrying the idol can now traverse with it, an ability that the old multiplayer modes did not allow. The mode can be played on three maps – Island, Madagascar City and Rooftops, the same maps players got to explore in the "Uncharted 4" beta and multiplayer stress test.

Naughty Dog promises that it will reveal mode details about Plunder soon and it assures that what they will divulge "will please a lot of people." Until then, the game studio wants fans to see Plunder for themselves at their PAX East booth today.

"Uncharted 4" will be released for the PS4 on May 10.
