'True Detective' season 2 plot spoilers: brand new trailers released

In just a few weeks, Nic Pizzolatto's crime anthology drama "True Detective" will return for its second season. In preparation, HBO has released several new teasers to hype the series' return on the small screen.

Two new teasers were released by the cable network, which are both consistent to the approach of the earlier trailers where no major plot details have been provided.

The first trailer titled "Chaos" shows the cops at work. Detective Ray Velcoro (Collin Farrell) is shown talking to a group of people, including Detective Ani Bezzerides (Rachel McAdams).

"Just one question," Velcoro asks. "Am I supposed to solve this or not?"

Former criminal Frank Semyon (Vince Vaughn) is also in the trailer, talking to Velcoro and instructing him about something. California Highway Patrol Officer Paul Woodrugh (Taylor Kitsch), meanwhile, can be seen cruising across the highway.

Before the end of the teaser, Bezzerides talks to Velcoro, saying: "How compromised are you?"

He answers, "I welcome judgement."

Based on the trailer, Farrell's Velcoro will be featured in a time jump or a flashback, since his pronounced mustache in the series is missing in one of the scenes.

The second trailer titled "Stand," on the other hand, features no dialogue, but it does not mean that it is not as action-packed as the first one.

HBO has so far shared very little information about the plot of "True Detective" season 2, but spoilers say that the cops will focus on what was supposed to be a transportation deal that binds the Northern and Southern California highways, but the deal was disrupted because of the murder of a fraudulent city manager. They will also investigate the mysterious disappearance of a girl.

Unlike the first season which was shot at Fort Macomb outside New Orleans, the upcoming season was filmed in the more obscure areas near Los Angeles to showcase the darker ambiance of the series.

"True Detective" season 2 is slated to air on June 21.
