Things are going to get political when "Transparent" returns for its fourth season this year.

In light of recent events, cast members of the hit Amazon drama "Transparent" believe the series should get more political. The show returns in just a few months, and the cast and crew are wasting no time in kicking off their Emmy campaign. Their most recent appearance was at a panel discussion at the Hollywood Athletic Club in Los Angeles.

Series creator Jill Soloway was present at the event, together with cast members Jeffrey Tambor, Judith Light, Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Landecker, Kathryn Hahn, Alexandra Billings, and Trace Lysette.

Soloway was careful not to reveal too many details about the upcoming season, but she did say that the story is taking a different route. "It feels like a classical American television show . . . I can't really say more than that, but things will get more political than they've ever been," the showrunner/creator teased.

Considering the tense political climate in the United States right now, almost all members of the cast agree that not addressing the heightened LGBTQ discrimination since the presidential elections in 2016 is inevitable. Tambor, who plays the lead character Maura, strongly believes that it is their job to address those issues on the small screen.

"You go to work with a mission statement, as we do, to reflect on people's lives and anxieties, and trying to connect with them," Tambor explained. "I think one of the things I like most about what we do is that people trust us. We're not messing around — this is a real family, and these are the lessons we're telling."

As Refinery29 points out, "Transparent" has always had to be political due to its overall theme. Since the show is the first to tackle a subject wherein a person is transitioning in a very extensive way, it is expected to take on a lot of responsibilities with the concepts of respect and representation.

The third season of "Transparent" can be streamed on Amazon Prime, while season 4 is expected to premiere this fall.
