Electronic Arts (EA), the developer behind many of popular sports and action games, has plans to buy the studio responsible for the "Titanfall" franchise — Respawn Entertainment. In line with this, EA also announced that they will be working on a new installment for "Titanfall."
EA and Respawn have already been working together for the past few years. EA published Respawn's popular games including both the "Titanfall" titles and their "Star Wars" game. According to Respawn's statement on their website, "EA will provide us with more resources, access to new technologies, and expertise that we can tap into to that will help us make better games, and Respawn will retain the same creative freedom and culture we've always had."
From a gamer's perspective, this does not change much, given the already existing partnership of the two companies. However, it did make many fans hyped up for the new "Titanfall" game.
Months ago, CEO of Respawn, Vince Zampella, promised their growing base of fans that they will be releasing more "Titanfall" games in the future. Zampella himself said that the company was "heavily invested" in the said franchise, as reported by IGN. Partnering up with EA, apparently, was the final step to fulfilling this promise.
"We've seen firsthand the world-class caliber of Respawn as a development studio with incredible vision, deep talent and an inspiring creative mindset," says Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA. "Together, we've brought this to life in the Titanfall franchise, and now with the Respawn team joining EA, we have exciting plans to accomplish even more amazing things in the future," he added.
In addition to the new "Titanfall," they were also proud to announce that they will now be able to work on new projects, including untitled virtual reality game and a new Star Wars game.
EA will be paying $151 million in cash and over $164 million in long-term equity for four years.
