"The Walking Dead" is not going anywhere anytime soon. Outgoing showrunner Scott Gimple recently teased his grand plans for the AMC zombie series as he segues to become the brand's chief content officer after season 8.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gimple said they have a bunch of different ideas and among those is scripted "traditional stuff, non-traditional stuff, stuff people don't expect." For him, he considers embracing the evolving formats, episode lengths, and platforms in the television industry. When pressed about making traditional spinoffs beyond "Fear The Walking Dead, Gimple said he is open to that and more.

"There are different approaches to how we tell stories and how long we tell them for and the places we can do them," he told the publication. "I'm hoping to do a variety of different projects that are probably more in line with what we see on TV but maybe in different rhythms and formats and things like that."

Gimple could not give away much as talks about the show's next creative step are still ongoing, but he knows he will have to talk about it sooner or later.

A showrunner since "The Walking Dead" season 2, Gimple is departing from his post at the end of season 8 to not only oversee the spinoff "Fear" but also head the network's entire "Walking Dead" programming.

So far, it has only branched out twice, telling Madison Clarke's (Kim Dickens) viewpoint of the apocalypse with "Fear the Walking Dead" and airing the miniseries "Flight 462." These, alongside the parent show, have taken fans to Atlanta and California, although they have since moved to various other locations during their tenure on the air.

"The Walking Dead" season 8 is currently into its 11th episode while "Fear" has not returned for its fourth season yet. Both shows air Sundays on AMC, with the latter premiering on April 15.
