'The Walking Dead' season 8 episode 9 release date, spoilers: Michonne takes out a herd of walkers; Rick Grimes' death coming up next?

The latest promo teaser for the mid-season premiere of "The Walking Dead" season 8 includes everything that a zombie apocalypse series fan would like to see. After all the human drama from the first half of the season, the new trailer for upcoming episode 9 titled "Honor" shows Michonne (Danai Gurira) facing a horde of walkers all by herself. Meanwhile, there are rumors that AMC's hit TV show will feature more shocking deaths in the near future, possibly including that of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).

AMC recently gave the viewers a glimpse of the back end of "The Walking Dead" season 8, wherein Michonne can be seen racing against a group of walkers in order to shut the gate closed. In spite of the sheer number and force of the walkers, Michonne can be seen getting a hold of the gate, in which a walker had his face torn off while the gate is being closed. The fearless character then advances towar another wave of walkers and takes them down one by own with the use of her infamous katana.

The last time that the viewers saw Michonne in "The Walking Dead" season 8 was during the heart-wrenching scene from the winter break finale wherein Carl (Chandler Riggs) revealed to Rick and Michonne that he was infected by a walker bite. His loved ones were devastated upon realizing that Carl's fate is already sealed. Nevertheless, "The Walking Dead" season 8 promo teaser pretty much shows that the war against the undead and the wretched Saviors is far from over.

On the other hand, there are speculations that the potential death of Carl in the next episode of "The Walking Dead" season 8 will not be the last shocking death that the fans must endure up to the finale. After the news broke out that Lennie James, who portrays Morgan, will exit season 8 to join the spinoff series "Fear the Walking Dead," it is now rumored that Lincoln will follow his lead shortly. Thus, the fans might see the last of Rick Grimes this season.

In an interview, Lincoln revealed that "The Walking Dead" season 8 will show more of the dynamics between Rick and Morgan, in spite of the latter's anticipated departure from the show. It remains to be seen if James' character will soon bid farewell as he might fall victim to the Saviors. Also, Rick's life has always been in danger ever since the beginning of season 8, especially now that a new poster suggests that the Saviors' leader, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), is determined to kill Rick at all cost.

"It was a very, very sad back eight. There were lots of goodbyes, and big goodbyes as well. But there was a sort of sense, certainly, with Lennie, that it's until we meet again. It's always been that way with Rick and Morgan. I don't know, there's something in the air, that I feel that it's not quite the end yet for Rick and Morgan," Lincoln told EW.

"The Walking Dead" season 8 episode 9 will air on Sunday, February 25th, at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
