'The Walking Dead' mid-season premiere hints at Carl's survival after walker bite

"The Walking Dead" continues where it left off on Feb. 25 on AMC Facebook/TheWalkingDeadAMC

Before AMC's "The Walking Dead" went on its eighth season hiatus, the all-out war against the walkers has left the entire show at the pinnacle of conflict. Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) was attacked by a walker, forcing his father Rick (Andrew Lincoln) to deal with the eventuality of his son's death. However, fans can still suspend their grief, as it is possible that Carl just might survive, as hinted at by Robert Kirkman, the original comic book creator and show producer.

At the recent Walker Stalker Cruise Q&A panel, Kirkman said, "He might not die. You never know. But I think if, were that to happen, I think that it would have some interesting ramifications on Rick, that I think would energize and really kind of set things in motion in a really interesting way leading to the resolution of All Out War."

As the feud between Rick and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) continues to escalate, new international posters have been released wherein black and white photos of each character is individually shown, along with red scrawls of "Kill Negan" and "Kill Rick" emblazoned across their faces. At this point, Negan is dead set on killing Rick but with the latter's newfound motivation, it seems Rick's death is not going to happen anytime soon.

However, an "uneasy" alliance between Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Dwight (Austin Amelio) seems to be moving into the spotlight as the season resumes. According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Reedus said that this was his "favorite storyline going forward," but does not believe that their characters would truly become a formidable duo.

Reedus said, "I don't think he ever fully accepts Dwight, but he gets it. He gets where he's coming from, but he doesn't like him. They don't like each other. I think one person's trying to hang out and the other person's like, 'Stay the f— away from me.' You know what I mean?"

To see it all unfold, tune in to the season 8 mid-season premiere of "The Walking Dead" on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
