'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers: Sarah Salvatore returns to Mystic Falls

Tristin Mays as Sarah Salvatore The CW

Another former cast member is confirmed to return to Mystic Falls in the eighth and final season of "The Vampire Diaries."

TVLine revealed that Tristin Mays will reprise her role as Sarah Salvatore, a distant relative of Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder).

But what will Sarah do in Mystic Falls in her return to Mystic Falls? According to the report, Sarah could possibly help Damon get out of the darkness as his only living relative aside from Stefan.

Mays will not be the only one who will return in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. According to series co-creator Julie Plec, other familiar faces will be seen when the supernatural drama returns for its final season.

"Already our whole list of returning actors is ten deep," Plec said during the 2016 San Diego Comic Con, as reported by TV Overmind. "I can't say anything more, but there's definitely a plan to try and revisit the stories with everybody."

One of the highly anticipated returning characters for the eighth season of "The Vampire Diaries" is Nina Dobrev's Elena Gilbert. Dobrev departed from the show after season 6, but she is reportedly willing to appear one last time to say goodbye to the show for season 8.

In an interview with ET Canada, Kat Graham revealed that she has yet to confirm if Dobrev will really reprise her iconic role on the show for the upcoming season. But she stated that she would like to see Elena one last time in Mystic Falls.

"Obviously [Dobrev's return] has my vote, and we want the most amazing outcome as a cast and as a crew, and I'm sure the writing staff. And we just are always supportive of [Dobrev] and her journey, and it would be great, obviously," the actress who portrays the role of Bonnie Bennet in the show stated.

The CW will air the premiere episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 on Oct. 21.
