Phil Tandy Miller (Will Forte) and his sports ball family returned for the sophomore season of "The Last Man on Earth" on FOX last Sunday with a remarkable season premiere that gives TV comedy a new name.

In the first season finale of the Emmy Award-nominated post-apocalyptic comedy series, Tandy and Carol Pilbasian (Kristen Schaal) had to go through a journey out of Tucson. They were driven out of the city when he accidentally knocked down a solar powered lamp.

The duo, who was married at the start of the series, seemed to be getting along well as they embarked on a road trip to look for a new place to live in. The entire country, meanwhile, is practically deserted after a horrifying virus nearly killed the rest of the population. They made a pit stop at the White House, touching everything they fancied.

But in the upcoming second episode "My Boo," Phil and Carol will be separated, and they both have no idea how to find each other since they both don't have any form of communication. The official synopsis for the episode reads:

"Phil searches desperately for Carol after they're separated without phones or walkie-talkies."

Can the estranged couple find their way back to each other in the upcoming episode of "The Last Man On Earth?"

Meanwhile, series executive producer Chris Miller recently chatted with IGN to talk about the upcoming season. According to Miller, Phil/Tandy reached rock bottom after the first season. This means that things will be a little different in season 2, having realized that he is not the only person left on Earth.

"Well, the idea for him last season is that he had hit absolute rock bottom so that like the phoenix from the ashes he could rise. But at the same time, he's not magically turned into a different person," Miller shared. "He's still an average person with a lot of weaknesses. But the difference this season is that he's really trying to be a good person. The first season he wasn't really trying to be a good person. Now he's fully committed to trying, it's just really hard for him and the situations he gets himself into make it really hard."

"The Last Man on Earth" season 2 episode 2 airs on Sunday, Oct. 4.
