'The Good Wife' season 7 plot rumors: Eli finds love with Vanessa Williams's Courtney Boalt

It seems like Eli Gold (Alan Cumming) will finally have a love interest in the all-new "The Good Wife" season 7.

Casting news exclusively released by TVLine states that "Ugly Betty" star Vanessa Williams has landed a recurring role in CBS's legal drama.

The information came from the Emmy Awards-nominated Cumming, who revealed that the singer-actress was tapped to portray the role of Courtney Boalt. The character is described as "an extremely successful, self-made businesswoman who is potentially interested in backing Peter Florrick's (Chris Noth) campaign for President. In the process, she meets Eli, sparking a mutual attraction."

In a press release, series creators Robert and Michelle King said that Cumming and Williams could be one of the few pairings that could easily make the viewers laugh and that seeing them together on screen is something to look forward to.

Meanwhile, "The Good Wife" fans will find that Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) could have a drinking problem in season 7.

In an interview with CBS' Jane Pauley, Margulies teased that her character might be going through something that needs to be addressed soon.

"I think Alicia might have a drinking problem," the actress shared. "She's lonely. And I think wine is numbing her out a little bit. And I think that's something we might address in Season 7."

It would be interesting to see how Alicia will handle the new challenges around her in the upcoming season. With the daunting task of reviving her legal career by accepting criminal cases in bond court, it would not be surprising to see her grab a bottle or two to calm her nerves. She will also have to deal with her husband Peter's (Chris Noth) campaign for the US presidency, which could also add up to the stress that she endures..

"The Good Wife" season 7 premieres Sunday, Oct. 4 (9:00-10:00 pm, ET/PT), on CBS.
