Despite the consistent critical acclaim that "The Good Wife" has been enjoying for seven seasons, CBS is still mum about the renewal of the show for season 8.

The Hollywood Reporter already posted a partial list of shows that are returning for another season, and "The Good Wife" is surprisingly not included on the list.

The multi-awarded legal drama is currently on a winter hiatus, but fans of the show are already eager to find out what will happen next when Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) and her staff return early next year.

In the midseason finale, Eli (Alan Cumming) finally confessed receiving and deleting the voicemail sent by Will (Josh Charles) to Alicia five years ago. .

According to "The Good Wife" co-creator Robert King, there are several reasons why it took them five years before bringing back the voicemail arc.

"We like that problems don't really go away on the show — just as they don't go away in life," the series co-creator explained in an interview with TVLine. "It makes it feel like the characters have lives beyond the confines of seasonal arcs and denouements. We also wanted the viewers to forget about an event from seasons past; it makes it much more surprising when it comes back. Last reason: we want the first and seventh season to feel like they're coming full circle."

This will reportedly have a huge blow on Alicia since she still seems to be hurting from Will's sudden death. "It reopens a wound. The death of a loved one never really goes away. We all have a 'sliding doors' fantasy of life," King said.

Meanwhile, fans of the legal drama can now breathe a sigh of relief after King and his co-creator Michelle King revealed that the new favorite character Jason Crouse will return for the rest of the season even if actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan accepted a new role as Negan in "The Walking Dead" series.
