Barry's (Grant Gustin) mission to save Iris (Candice Patton) continues on the upcoming episode of "The Flash" season 3.

Titled "The Once and Future Flash," the show's next episode will see the Scarlet Speedster do everything in his power to save the love of his life. According to the official synopsis, Barry travels to the future to find out Savitar's (Andre Tricoteux) real identity in hopes of changing Iris' deadly fate. Upon arriving in 2024, Barry crosses paths with future versions of Team Flash members who have become very different people after Iris' death. All of them have been extremely affected by their major showdown with Savitar. It is now up to Barry to get the team's hopes up again as he proves that he's the hero his future friends have been waiting for. Back in the present timeline, the search for Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) continues.

Meanwhile, actor Tom Cavanagh has played three different roles since the debut of "The Flash." He is now set to take on a new role in the show but this time, he will be behind the camera. Cavanagh is officially directing episode 19 of season 3. While the episode marks his first time directing "The Flash," Cavanagh had already directed another series from NBC titled "Ed" in the early 2000s.

The CW recently revealed a trailer for the episode and it shows the familiar faces who are coming back in the show. Sam aka Mirror Master (Grey Damon) is set to return, along with his love interest and partner-in-crime, Rosa aka Top (Ashley Rickards). At the end of the promo, Top teams up with Mirror Master to fight against The Flash.

"This [Episode 19] is definitely his most involved trip to the future or the past because he's there for a predominant part of the episode and tries to get some clues as to how this went down in the future so he can come back and stop it," Gustin teased. "Barry starts to get some answers pretty soon. It's going to be a challenge to stop this guy. It's going to be a different kind of challenge than we've ever had."

The third season of "The Flash" airs every Tuesday night at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
