The CW finally revealed the details pertaining to the return of Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) in "The Flash" season 2, days before the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel schedule. According to the network, Barry and his friends will start picking up the pieces after the death of Eobard Thawne last season.

The official season 2 synopsis reads:

Following the defeat of Barry Allen's arch-nemesis Eobard Thawne (aka Reverse Flash), Team Flash quickly turned their attention to the singularity swirling high above Central City, which fans last saw consuming everything in its path. Armed with the heart of a hero and the ability to move at super speeds, Barry charged into the eye of the singularity, but will he actually be able to save his city from impending doom?"

While some fans of the show are hoping to see Barry and Iris West (Candice Patton) together next season after her boyfriend Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) sacrificed his own life during the season 1 finale to save them, this will not be the case.

Series executive producer Andrew Kreisberg discussed the future of Barry and Iris in "The Flash" season 2 during his previous interview with the Entertainment Weekly, saying that Iris will have to deal with the fact that her long-time boyfriend gave up his life to save her. Barry will also have a hard time accepting the fact that it was Eddie who was able to protect Iris and not him.

However, Barry and Iris will still be constantly together since she will start getting more involved with Team Flash and the S.T.A.R. Labs to help him track down criminals.

But if Iris' love life will have to be stalled for now, her father Joe (Jesse L. Martin) may find a new love interest in an old friend named Olivia. Spoilers claim that the veteran detective will be reconnected with the troubled Olivia, and they will immediately fall in love.

Barry will also meet a new woman named Patty Spivot, a forensics scientist working for the Central City Police Department. She will allegedly fall in love with him in the upcoming season. The show has yet to reveal the names of the actresses who will portray the roles of Olivia and Patty in the coming days.

"The Flash" season 2 is slated to premiere on Oct. 6.
