'The Elder Scrolls 6' release date rumors: Game currently not on Bethesda's agenda?

A look at "Elder Scrolls Online" Bethesda/Elder Scrolls Online

It looks like "The Elder Scrolls 6" is not coming anytime soon. Game director Todd Howard recently said at the DICE Summit 2016 that they have new titles on the way and his words suggest that an "Elder Scrolls" title is out of the question.

"We actually have three kind of longer term projects we're doing that are all – we'll talk about them at a future date – but they're different than anything we've done before, while also being a Bethesda-style game," Howard said as quoted by Gamespot.

"Big and crazy, but in many ways different than things we've done before. It's an exciting time," he teased. Forbes surmises that if these new titles will all be fresh, "The Elder Scrolls 6" will remain a long shot.

However, the same publication states that Bethesda may simply be looking to change things up in the beloved franchise and that "different than anything we've done before" actually meant that they are dipping their toes into new things using their old franchises.

For a while now, fans have been clamoring for "The Elder Scrolls 6." There are all sorts of rumors about its setting and gameplay mechanics but Bethesda has not said a word about it, leaving gamers in the dark about their plans for the video game series.

The last title released from the franchise is "The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim," which is undoubtedly one of the most successful and most popular titles Bethesda has ever put out. This fact makes it strange that "The Elder Scrolls 6" has never been mentioned by the game studio.

However, Howard has hinted that Bethesda is considering trimming the timeframe between new game announcements and their actual availability, just like what they did with "Fallout 4," which seems to have worked considering the game's success.

This means that even though "The Elder Scrolls 6" is close to a launch, fans won't hear about it until months before it actually goes out. At the moment, the game is nowhere on the horizon.
