'The Blacklist' spin-off details: Famke Janssen channels Red in upcoming series

The Blacklist NBC

NBC is currently cooking up the spin-off series of the critically acclaimed "The Blacklist" crime drama, which will star "How To Get Away with Murder" actress Famke Janssen in the lead role.

While NBC has yet to reveal the title of the upcoming spin-off, the list of cast members for the upcoming series are starting to circulate online.

Janssen will reportedly portray the role of Susan "Scottie" Halsted, who is reportedly similar to Red's (James Spader) role in the original series.

Tom Eggold will also reprise his role as Tom Keen in the spin-off, and he and Scottie will share the same dynamics as Red and Liz Keen (Megan Boon) from the original series.

Aside from Eggold, another original "The Blacklist" star will also join the cast of the spin-off. This time, Edi Gathegi is confirmed to reprise his role as the Cabal operative named Matias Solomon in the upcoming show. They will also be joined by "Unforgettable" star Tawny Cypress as a character named Nez Rowan in the still untitled spin-off.

While talks about the possible spin-off had been going around since 2015, NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke confirmed that upcoming show's development in an interview with Variety in February.

"The only thing I can say is where talking about planting some characters in the show, much in the way that we do in the world of the 'Chicago' shows. They could be explored as a potential spin-off, but we have in no way committed to a spin-off series," Salke revealed.

Before a full series will be ordered, the planned spin-off will be introduced in episode 22 of "The Blacklist" season 3, written by series creator Jon Bokenkamp and showrunner John Eisendrath. The episode, airing May 12, is directed by Michael Dinner.

More details about "The Blacklist" spin-off is expected to come out in the coming days.
