While fans got their wish when Liz Keen (Megan Boone) turned out to be alive in the third season finale of "The Blacklist," it means that her return will change the course of the plot when the series returns for season 4.

During the later episodes of "The Blacklist" season 3, Liz's team at the FBI worked vigorously with her husband Tom (Ryan Eggold) and her informant Red (James Spader) to catch the person responsible for her supposed death. But now that the truth is already out about her fake death, viewers will find out how it will affect everyone in the upcoming season.

In the third season ender, Liz revealed that she faked her death so she could finally get away from Red because she felt that she and her family will be in constant danger because of the FBI informant. She also said that she wanted to know more about her past, which will be impossible with Red trailing behind her all the time. However, her decision to stage her own death will have a huge implication, and it is expected to roll out in season 4.

In an interview with Deadline, series creator Jon Bokenkamp teased that the effects of the events in the season 3 finale will be explained further next season.

"I think the decision Liz made to fake her death will have significant impacts, not only with Red, but with the entire team! How much of a betrayal was this? How understanding will the others be? I think there is a lot of fertile material there, story wise, and that's going to be a big part of Season 4," Bokenkamp said. "You think this was a roller coaster ride? Just wait."

Meanwhile, fans are also worried that Liz and Tom's new family will have no chance of being together, since Tom will be featured in the show's upcoming spin-off, "The Blacklist: Redemption." But according to Eggold, his character will still be part of the first few episodes of season 4.

"It will partly be to send us down the trajectory of this new series, and for the characters, we'll find out what happens between Tom and Liz and what happens with this baby girl they both share," the actor told TVLine. "What is the future of that? We're going to deal with that in the beginning of Season 4 and then make our way to a brand-new series."

"The Blacklist" season 4 is expected to premiere on NBC in the fall.
