Fans of the post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama "The 100" might have to wait a little longer to find out what happens to the survivors in the series, as The CW held off the third season release for next year.

The network already announced their fall schedule for the 2015-2016 season, but "The 100" is not included in the line-up despite getting a green light for season 3. But according to network president Mark Pedowitz, the decision to give the show a midseason premiere is calculated, and it is for the better.

In an interview with Zap2it, Pedowitz explained the hold up of "The 100" season 3.

"We had to make some moves to put on some shows and make some changes," Pedowitz explained. "We felt that 'Vampire Diaries' and 'Originals' is a good combination on Thursdays, we needed to shore up Thursday a little bit. We felt that 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' was a better fit on Monday. I think 'The 100' and 'Jane' might have been a little bit twisty."

The CW exec also shared his hopes that holding off the season premiere of "The 100" until early next year could increase the level of interest for the show, just like what happened to AMC's "Breaking Bad" that saw a steady increase in viewers when its fourth season was given a midseason premiere.

"It's a big Netflix favorite, and having the opportunity to catch up on years 1 and 2 as we begin year 3, maybe this show can get the real viewers it deserves, and maybe it'll have that 'Breaking Bad' moment," Pedowitz claimed.

Meanwhile, earlier spoilers claim that Clarke (Eliza Taylor) will break away from the group when the show returns next season, while Bellamy (Bob Morley) will continue to be the leader at Camp Jaha. The Grounders might also be shown in the upcoming season.
