Tesla Model 3 release: EV crosses 230k pre-order mark; everything to know about the new Tesla masterpiece

The Tesla Model 3 in all its glory. Tesla

Tesla Motors have officially unveiled the long-awaited Tesla Model 3 after a decade ever since it was announced. The company boasts "real world range, performance, safety and spaciousness" like no other in their newly-unveiled premium sedan.

Tesla Model 3 provides comfortable space for five people and has a trunk both on the back and on the front. The continuous glass pane on the Model 3's roof area is also quite a draw as it looks nice and still provides bigger headroom for passengers.

On the inside, there's a landscape capacitive touch screen replacing the portrait 17-inch display on the Model S. The new Tesla Model 3 sedan also comes with autopilot safety features and Tesla guarantees five-star safety rating.

Tesla Model 3 runs 0-60 mph under six seconds, a feature that users look forward to the most and Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk takes pride in. "At Tesla, we don't make slow cars. And of course, there will be versions that go much faster," he said during the launch via Extreme Tech.

Tesla Model 3 can go up to at least 215 miles on a single charge, which is already double of what competing electric vehicles can offer. The vehicle comes with supercharging capabilities too.

For Tesla Model 3 drivers to ultimately go farther and further, Tesla is putting up double the number of existing charging stations from 3,600 to a whopping 7,200.

The starting price for the Tesla Model 3 is $35,000. At the time of writing, there are already 232,000 pre-orders (buyers are required to deposit $1,000). Within the 24 hours of the Tesla Model 3 unveiling, the company has recorder 198,000 orders already.

"We are simply awestruck by the demand surfacing for the Tesla Model 3. We had no idea the reservation orders would be this strong," Stifel auto analyst James Albertine wrote. To illustrate the success of the Tesla Model 3, Carnegie Mellon University assistant professor Costa Samaras tweeted out this comparison.

Tesla will start shipping Tesla Model 3 units by late 2017.
