'Terminator 6' plot, release news: Arnold Schwarzenegger teases approach to revive franchise

33 years after he was cast as the indestructible T-800 cyborg for James Cameron's sci-fi box office hit, "The Terminator," Arnold Schwarzenegger still has no plans of retiring the memorable role anytime soon.

Apparently, the 70-year-old loves the character so much that he is willing to continue giving life to it on screen. Talking to Business Insider, Schwarzenegger said the Terminator is a really interesting character with a tremendous ability.

"He's a machine, can be destructive, can do things human being can't do," he told the outlet. "But at the same time when newer technology comes along the character suddenly is vulnerable and that makes him even more interesting."

Indeed, the Terminator has become a legendary figure in the history of cinema with its one-liners and non-stop action sequence still ingrained in everyone's minds. Unfortunately, it had a roller coaster path in the box office since Cameron left the franchise after "Terminator 2: Judgment Day."

While the third movie did a decent job at the box office, the franchise eventually took a downturn with the fourth one and hit a brick wall with last year's "Terminator Genisys." Fortunately, there are plans to revive the series.

Schwarzenegger said Cameron and "Deadpool" director Tim Miller, who will helm "Terminator 6," came up with a concept where they can continue T-800's tale, but make the movie a whole new simple one.

"I think what they are doing now with this one is basically to just take a few very basic characters, like Linda Hamilton's character and my character, and dismiss everything else," he explained. "Just move away from all these rules of the timeline and the other characters."

Learning from their past slipups, he added that they will "take the freedom of opening up" this time rather than sticking to the same timelines and the other characters.

"Terminator 6" is the first of a planned trilogy under the guidance of Cameron. Schwarzenegger will start filming for the next film in March 2018 for a July 26, 2019 release.
