Christmas will be extended to January for "Supernatural" fans as Santa Claus threatens to spread fear instead of holiday cheer in the midseason premiere of season 11.
The trailer for the upcoming episode titled "The Devil in the Details" shows Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) wearing a Santa Claus costume as he slams the door of a house where pajama-clad Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard) is opening his Christmas presents. Crowley's mother Rowena (Ruth Connell) is also inside the house, wearing a Rudolf costume and watching him open his gifts with an annoyed expression on her face.
The promo clip also shows the Winchester brothers spending time apart. Sam (Jared Padalecki) is seen still trapped inside a cage with Lucifer, while his older brother Dean (Jensen Ackles) is driving toward an undisclosed location. Their friend Castiel also appears in the trailer, and he seems to be facing a problem of his own.
During the "Supernatural" season 11 midseason finale, Sam came to Lucifer in order to talk to him about defeating The Darkness/Amara (Emily Swallow). But instead of fixing the problem, Sam is trapped in Lucifer's cage because the latter wants him to agree to become his vessel again to escape hell. The younger Winchester brother refused, but the fallen angel was not giving up on his plans.
Dean, meanwhile, needs to get rid of Amara. But The Darkness told him that they are destined to be together. During the midseason finale, Amara kissed Dean romantically. The older Winchester decided to put a stop to the kiss because he knew that she would cause nothing but trouble. Will the Winchesters find a way to finally beat their biggest enemy before she could cause further destruction?
In addition, fans of the show are wondering if God will finally appear in the future episodes of "Supernatural" season 11 since he could definitely beat The Darkness. Based on the previous episodes, God and The Darkness are twins, and he is the only one who could beat her.
"Supernatural" season 11 returns on Wednesday, Jan. 20, on The CW.
