The Darkness will showcase the full extent of her powers in the midseason finale of "Supernatural" season 11.

According to the synopsis for the episode called "O Brother Where Art Thou," The Darkness personified named Amara (guest star Emily Swallow) will make her powers known in an unsuspecting town. But aside from her presence, Amara will also unleash a challenge that will shock the town's residents.

The episode will also feature Dean's (Jensen Ackles) quest to further understand his undeniable connection to Amara. Meanwhile his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Crowley (Mark Sheppard) will work together in a new plan.

In the previous episode, Sam told Dean that he had a vision when he went to God to ask for advice to defeat The Darkness. Sam said that he saw his return to the cage where Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) is imprisoned. Upon hearing this, Dean told his younger brother that he should ditch that plan and look for other ways to beat Amara instead.

Since the Winchester brothers are known for constantly plotting behind each other's back, Sam will opt to team up with Crowley instead of his brother. But according to the synopsis, things could go wrong with Sam and Crowley's plan.

The trailer for the episode revealed that Sam will spend time with Lucifer in a cage. If Sam is looking for a way to stop The Darkness from doing her evil plans, it seems that Lucifer is his only hope.

This will be the first time that Lucifer will return to the series after his brief appearance in "Supernatural" season 7. But his last interaction with Sam was seen during the season finale of the show's fifth season.

The complete synopsis for the episode reads:

"Amara unleashes her power on the local townspeople as she issues a shocking challenge. Dean tries to better understand the hold Amara has on him, while Sam and Crowley come up with a plan that could have disastrous consequences."

"Supernatural" season 11 midseason finale airs Wednesday, Dec. 9, on The CW.
