Netflix has finally announced the start of production of the upcoming third season of "Stranger Things." The popular science fiction thriller is expected to introduce some new faces in season 3, although fans will also see the returning characters having more important roles to play.

Netflix has made the announcement of "Stranger Things" season 3 filming through a video post on the show's official Twitter page. The short video features old and new cast members of the series, with a special participation of the season 2 breakout star Priah Ferguson. The young actress is known as the sassy sister of Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), Erica. At the start of the video, Ferguson can be heard saying, "get out of here, nerds!"

The official video teaser for "Stranger Things" season 3 features newcomers Maya Hawke, Jake Busey and Cary Elwes.

According to IGN, Hawke of "Little Women" fame will portray a still unnamed character who is only described as a young woman looking for a thrill in Hawkins. Hawke's character find her day job as boring, which may eventually drive to unravel the deadly secret of her seemingly quiet town.

Meanwhile, Elwes will assume the role of Mayor Kline, who does not seem to have the purest intention for Hawkins as he always puts his own image above anything else, akin to a "classic 80's politician."

Busey, on the other hand, is cast as a journalist named Bruce who works for The Hawkins Post. The character may not be one to be trusted due to his "questionable morals and a sick sense of humor."

Going back to Ferguson, her character Erica is slated to have bigger role in "Stranger Things" season 3, so viewers can expect her to do more than just ticking off her older brother.

Likewise, Steve Harington, played by Joe Keery, will get a more signficant role other than being a babysitter for the kids. The plot details of the new season are still kept under wraps, although it was reported that "Stranger Things" season 3 is set one year after the events of the previous season's final episode.
