Given the hype brought about by its second season, it is no longer surprising that the hit science fiction-suspense series, "Stranger Things," was renewed for season 3. However, there is now a chance that the next chapter will happen, or worse, have the show pulled out from Netflix, as an indie film creator filed a lawsuit against the "Stranger Things" creators, the Duffer Brothers, for the allegation of plagiarism.
Last week, filmmaker Charlie Kessler filed a formal complaint against the Duffer Brothers as he claims that the concept used in "Stranger Things" was actually his. As reported by Digital Spy, Kessler's 2012 short film "Montauk" first featured the case of a mysterious disappearance of a young boy that is linked to a military procedure that has gone wrong.
The "Stranger Things" series creators have openly admitted that the popular Netflix show paid homage to a handful of classis 80's suspense films such as "Carrie" and "Stand by Me," although Kessler's claim paints a picture that the Duffer Brothers' idea for "Stranger Things" is a complete rip-off of "Montauk." Kessler claimes he pitched the concept for a series based on his short film to the Duffers at the 2012 Tribecca Film Festival party. According to him, the Duffer Brothers dropped him out of the project and they used Kessler's concept without any consent.
The initial title for "Stranger Things" was reportedly "Montauk."
The Duffer Brothers, on the other hand, have already denied the allegations, claiming that Kessler was never a part of the development and production of "Stranger Things."
It was already confirmed that "Stranger Things" season 3 is happening, but the fans will have to wait until 2019 as the production of the new season is expected to take time. Actor David Harbor, who plays Chief Jim Hopper in the series, mentioned that the Duffer Brothers are working hard to offer a new twist for the viewers, but they will need all the time they can have to deliver a great outcome.
As for the new characters, Uma Thurman's daughter, Maya Thurman-Hawke, has been reportedly cast in "Stranger Things" season 3 as a mysterious girl who is looking for a thrill in Hawkins. However, Thurman-Hawke's character may get more than what she bargained for as she discovers the dark secret of the rather quiet town. Also, the younger sister of Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), Erica, is going to have a major role in the upcoming third season. Played by Priah Ferguson, the character is expected to be more than just a sassy little sister that enjoys bugging his sibling, leading another pack of youngsters to fight a new threat in Hawkins.
