Not much is known about Jon Watts' "Spider-Man: Homecoming 2," but as it gears up for this year's production, casting details have started to surface. Recent leaks revealed the movie is looking for a femme fatale to star opposite Tom Holland's Peter Parker and now, a new one offers a better idea of what the mysterious character would be like.
That Hashtag Show obtained an updated description of the role. According to the source, the sequel's femme fatale will be a "Bond-girl type international agent" and the publication certainly feels that the character in question is Jessica Drew, also known as Spider-Woman.
A female counterpart of Peter Parker's alter-ego, Spider-Woman was created by Stan Lee for 1977's "Marvel Spotlight #32" and has been a part of the Marvel universe ever since. She suffered uranium poisoning in 1931, forcing her father to inject her with an untested spider serum. Per Screen Rant, this gave her superpowers including powerful pheromones, stinger blasts, flight, and many of Spider-Man's abilities. Drew, who grew up in the fictional European country of Transia, worked as a Hydra agent before joining SHIELD and later becoming an Avenger.
Assuming the report is accurate, "Spider-Man: Homecoming 2" marks the first time Drew's character will be adapted into live-action. If not, other candidates for the role include Felicia Hardy, best known as the Black Cat, as well as Silver Sable, real name Silver Sablinova. The former is an anti-hero and sometimes criminal once among Spider-Man's love interest in the graphic novels while the latter is a mercenary hailing from the fictional Eastern European country Symkaria,
Whichever character it is, an announcement is expected in the coming weeks before the sequel heads into production. A recent report claims that it will commence principal photography on May 19. Filming locations reportedly include New York and multiple European countries like London, Venice, Prague, and Berlin.
"Spider-Man: Homecoming 2" swings into theaters on July 5, 2019.
