It has been almost a year since FX aired the last episode of "Sons of Anarchy," but the show's fans and its series creator Kurt Sutter are still hoping to see some of the characters return on screen in either a prequel or a spin-off format.
But it seems like Sutter already has a plan. He recently revealed to Deadline that he wants to feature some of the show's recognizable characters in a new series that will center on the Mayans biker club.
The series creator shared that the idea came across after talking to FX boss Eric Schrier about doing a show that will tap a niche market like the Spanish-speaking congregations. Then he opened the concept of doing a show based on the Mayans biker club, which seemed to sit well with the network executive.
But while the events of the new show will be developed far from the concept of "Sons of Anarchy," he will still consider bringing in several "SoA" characters as the new series progresses.
"I would do a contemporary piece, not a prequel, and place it far enough away from Northern California that it wouldn't step on the mythology that's already been told. It doesn't mean that there couldn't be some cool, ironic crossovers with familiar characters as the series progressed. I wouldn't want to set it too close to the world we already know, and step on that," Sutter shared during the Deadline interview.
But Sutter did not reveal who among the surviving members of the SAMCRO will be featured in his planned biker drama spin-off, or if it will feature the "SoA" character Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) in some form.
Also, the series showrunner is still not giving up on his dream of creating a prequel to the "Sons of Anarchy" series, saying, "At some point I do have plans to hopefully do the prequel, which I do see as a one-off 10- or 12-episode thing where we begin in Nam and see John Teller and Piney and see how that relationship got created, and bring them back to the States and the obvious external dynamics that were going on with the country and the perception of the war and what an odd kind of perception these vets got when they returned home."
It will also show the beginning of the new type of biker culture if the prequel will be called into production.
