It looks like George R.R. Martin will be at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con after all.
The author of the epic "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series, which HBO adapted into the hit TV series "Game of Thrones," earlier announced that he will have to cancel his SDCC appearance this year to be able to concentrate on writing "The Winds of Winter," the sixth novel in the saga.
But based on his latest tweet, the author will still grace the event, albeit in a fluffier, more huggable form.
Martin recently posted a picture on his Twitter account, showing a photo of him and a mini version of himself. The latter is set to appear in the annual multi-genre entertainment convention to be held at the San Diego Convention Center. The little GRRM happens to be a plushy toy which will be sent to the convention to take his place.
While the author's fans may still not be happy with the fact that a plush toy will greet them at the SDCC 2015 instead of GRMM himself, they should be glad that he is still committed to his promise of releasing "The Winds of Winter" right before "Game of Thrones" season 6 airs next year.
HBO has recently concluded the fifth season of the TV series, which means that the show will run out of material on which to base its story. This is the first time fans are left clueless about the plot of the series since the events from the past five seasons were taken from all the five books from "A Song Of Ice And Fire," which were already published prior to the TV adaptation. Both the novels and the TV adaptation are left hanging because "The Winds of Winter" is still incomplete.
But if the cast and crew of the show are currently working on developing the new episodes for "Game of Thrones" season 6, does this mean that Martin is already finished with the book?
Earlier, rumors began to circulate that "The Winds of Winter" is already finished when "GoT" director Jack Bender answered his fans that he already read the first draft of book six. But sources claim that Bender must have been confused with the question, and he was referring to the first draft of season 6 and not book six.
Martin already addressed the rumors on his LiveJournal account, saying, "Never believe rumors. I've said that a thousand times."
"Game of Thrones" will return with season 6 next year, and fans are hoping that "The Winds of Winter" will come out before then.
