'Sleepy Hollow' season 3 spoilers and cast news: Show loses Frank Irving

After series showrunner Mark Goffman left "Sleepy Hollow" before it was renewed for its third season, it has been reported that a fan-favorite character of FOX's supernatural procedural drama will not be returning to the show in season 3 either.

Variety broke the news that Orlando Jones, who portrayed the role of "Sleepy Hollow's" chief sheriff Frank Irving, will no longer join Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) in their battle between good and evil. Fans loved Jones on- and off-screen, particularly for his penchant for live-tweeting the events of the show every episode. However, both Jones' camp and the network have yet to announce the reason why he will not appear in "Sleepy Hollow" season 3.

Another character who is expected to be missing in the upcoming season is Ichabod's wife Katrina, portrayed by Katia Winter. This is not surprising since Ichabod decided to kill his wife during the season 2 finale. There's no word yet if the resident baddie Henry Parrish (John Noble) will reappear when the series returns since the character was killed by Ichabod in season 2.

Meanwhile, FOX already issued their official statement about what's in store for viewers in the third season of the modern-day TV adaptation of Washington Irving's short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." It reads:

The jaw-dropping conclusion of Season Two left Ichabod Crane and Lieutenant Abbie Mills with a decisive, albeit heartbreaking, victory over evil. In the name of good, Crane made the ultimate decision to kill his wife, Katrina Crane . With evil seemingly at bay, the third season will explore how the partnership between Crane and Mills will evolve and what challenges these two witnesses will now face."

With the major casting changes and Goffman's departure from the show, new "Sleepy Hollow" showrunner Clifton Campbell needs to make all the necessary adjustments to make the series as interesting as it was during its first season.
