The newest Skype 7.1 VoIP and messaging software has been released in time for the OS X Yosemite update.

The video chat and call software from Microsoft is laced with a number of new improvements that is supported by Apple's latest operating system.

According to Skype's official website, the Skype 7.1 for Mac now includes the Mac OSX 10.10 Yosemite support as well as the improved group profile that allows users to have an easier time copying links.  It also provides a faster option to sign out of a group conversation.

The new update, which was announced on Oct. 29, also fixes several existing issues in the software, including the immediate crash on ongoing video calls on Yosemite as well as the unexpected crashes when a user is sending contacts on Skype from search engine results.

The company also recognized and addressed several new issues and resolutions when using the Yosemite, such as the problems when initiating calls using the phone number buttons in the contact profile. It can now be resolved by making the calls using the voice call button instead of the phone number button.

In addition, Skype also released an update for iPhone users. Dubbed as the Skype 5.7 for iPhone, this improvement is meant for those who are using the iOS 8.  This includes owners of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, as well as users of the last-gen iPhones who have already updated their devices with the latest iOS from Apple.

The official Skype blog states that the Skype 5.7 for iPhone improvements includes the following:

"Save and delete photo - If you want to save a memorable photo to your camera roll or delete a sent photo from a chat, simply press and hold the image and the options will appear.

Faster chat load time - Now when you receive a notification and tap it to open the app, the message will be there waiting for you without any delays.

Avatars for all chat - You can now see all avatars for groups and people, and if they're changed on other platforms, they'll update in the app too so you always have the latest showing.

People list UI improvements - In 5.7, we've made it easier to find the people list search and filter options, so you can quickly and easily find the person you want to chat with and get started."

The Skype 5.7 for iPhone update rolled out on Oct. 30.
