"Sherlock" season 4 will not be filmed until 2016, but fans are not the only ones who are eagerly anticipating the start of the new season. After BBC One posted a little teaser for the fourth season of the critically-acclaimed British crime drama on the network's official Twitter account, actress Amanda Abbington also expressed her excitement for the upcoming season.
The actress, who portrays the role of Mary Morstan in the series, told her Twitter followers that she is excited to start filming "Sherlock" season 4 next year, and said that fans will have a lot to look forward to.
Abbington was introduced in the series during the previous season as a part-time nurse who also used to work as an assassin. Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) met her while in practice and they eventually fell in love. The two were married in the second episode of "Sherlock" season 3.
At the end of the season, Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) discovered that Mary is not the person she said she is after finding out that she was a former CIA agent who suddenly escaped the agency to work as a freelance assassin. John was very upset when he found out all her lies, but she claimed that she only did what she had to do to erase her past. She also stated that she really loves the doctor.
By the end of the season, fans of the show learned that Mary is pregnant with a baby girl.
But while the actress is confirmed to reprise her role for the upcoming season, speculations claim that Mary will meet an untimely death, based on the books written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, where the series is loosely based on.
Meanwhile, series creator Mark Gatiss lauded the lead actor of the series in an interview with The Big Issue early this year. According to renowned TV boss, Cumberbatch's portrayal of the iconic detective made "Sherlock" sexy.
"That happens very rarely, and he is keen to keep playing the part because he knows how much it has done for him, how much people love him playing it, and he loves it as well. It is quite a journey, isn't it? There is something very Mr Darcy-esque about his Sherlock," Gatiss explained. "He is unattainable. He explicitly claims no interest in either sex, therefore he becomes very desirable. But the way Ben plays him and the way he looks is quite Byronic."
The release date for "Sherlock" season 4 remains unconfirmed, but the series will air a stand-alone Christmas special episode later this year.
