The rivalry between Samsung and Apple has already reached the smartwear category, and it is rumored that both companies are already developing their next-gen wearable devices. As for the South Korean tech giant, the Samsung Gear S4 is expected to include an impressive feature that is not yet present in other smartwears, not even the latest Apple Watch Series. Specifically, the Gear S4 is tipped to have a non-invasive blood pressure monitoring technology.

According to a recent patent leak of the Samsung Gear S4, the smartwear could be the first one to showcase a blood pressure reader. This advanced health monitoring feature is quite challenging to be embedded in a small wearable device like the Samsung Gear S4. For now, the company appears to be applying a non-invasive method of measuring the user's blood pressure with high accuracy.

The Omron HeartGuide is considered as the first fitness wearable that is capable of determining the user's blood pressure, although it is not as handy as the Apple Watch and Samsung Gear S smartwatches. While the current blood pressure monitoring apparatuses use inflation, the Samsung Gear S4 patent suggests a different mechanism so that a small wearable device can get a blood pressure measurement. It appears that the smartwatch will use the same method in measuring the user's heart rate, wherein light beams will be introduced to the user's body to detect scattered patterns. After this, the device can analyze the blood pressure out of these patterns by following a special decoding algorithm.

Previous leaks show that Apple has started looking into the possibility of having an Apple Watch with blood pressure monitoring feature, which could also tap on a non-invasive method like the Samsung Gear S4. Aside from reading the heart rate, the users are also concerned about their blood pressure reading. Tech firms might be already aware of the public's new demand when it comes to a fitness wearable, and it would not be surprising to see the new Samsung Gear smartwatch telling the user's blood pressure in real-time.
