According to the latest reports, Samsung is planning to launch the successor to the Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic in the coming months. Dubbed as the Samsung Gear S4, the South Korean tech giant's upcoming smartwatch is expected to boast a brand new design, as well as improved health and fitness tracking features.
The latest scoop regarding the Samsung Gear S4 came from SamMobile, which has a great track record in leaking the specs details of Samsung's upcoming hardware. The tech website mentioned an unnamed Samsung wearable carrying the model number SM-R800. Based on the model number already being used by the Gear S2 and S3 smartwatches, this device is highly speculated to be the Gear S4 itself.
SamMobile has reported that the Samsung Gear S4 will include a better lineup of health and fitness tracking apps. For one, the Gear S4's S Health app is expected to have a more in-depth sleep tracking, which some users have noted to be lacking in the current Gear S models. Aside from the improvements on the currently existing health trackers, the Samsung Gear S4 is tipped to have a blood pressure monitoring feature, which will use a special minute technology that will allow the smartwatch to measure the user's blood pressure by using shining polarized light. The intensity of the scattered light will tell the blood pressure reading.
Other expected upgrades in the Samsung Gear S4 include a more powerful chip processor, bigger RAM capacity and longer battery life. The same with its predecessors, the Gear S4 is likely to run the next version of Samsung's very own Tizen operating system.
Samsung has yet to confirm the arrival of the Gear S4 later this year and its announcement is long overdue. The company unveiled the Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier in November 2016, while the new Gear Sport was launched in October last year. With this, the Samsung Gear S4 is likely to be announced in the last quarter of 2018.
