There is no official word yet from Samsung regarding the fate of the Gear S smartwatch series. The public were expecting the Samsung Gear S4 to arrive last year, but the South Korean tech giant launched the fitness-focused Gear Sport tracker instead. This time around, the company is finally unveiling the all-new Gear S wearable, which is said to come with improved health and sleep tracking technology.
Per Express UK, Samsung announced the current Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier in November 2016, but the company skipped on the Gear S series last year by introducing the new Gear Sport device. It can be said that the release of the Samsung Gear S4 is well overdue, and some users would rather see a new Gear S model than a second-generation Gear Sport tracker in 2018.
The good news is that Sam Mobile has obtained more concrete hints of the Samsung Gear S4 release this year. A product listing for a new smartwatch with model number SM-R800 was recently spotted online, and it appears that this smartwatch is none other than the Gear S4 itself.
To note, the Samsung Gear S3 Classic model comes with the model number SM-R770, while the Gear S3 Frontier uses the model number SM-R760. On the other hand, the Samsung Gear Sport has the model number SM-R600, which does not appear to be related to the supposed Gear S4 device.
The Samsung Gear S4 specs leak further reveals that the smartwatch will boast new and improved health tracking features. Although, the focus of the upgraded feature could be the more advanced sleep tracking technology. It is not shown whether the Gear S4 will get the same sports activity tracking as the Gear Sport, although it is possible that Samsung will make the next Gear S gizmo to be focused on sports and fitness as well.
While it is not indicated in the recent leak, the Samsung Gear S4 is expected to pack with a bigger battery and RAM capacity. As for the possible release date of the smartwatch, the Gear S4 is likely to be announced in the last quarter of 2018, going with the same schedule of announcement of the previous Samsung wearables.
