The Samsung Galaxy S9 is set to appear at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in Barcelona, Spain this February. Available details regarding the South Korean tech firm's next flagship suggest that it will not be too different from its predecessor, the Galaxy S8, in terms of design and features. Although, there might be at least one feature that will get the users excited about the S9, particularly the advanced slow-motion video recording.

At this point, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to boast a few changes, including an upgrade to dual-lens camera setup for the larger S9 Plus variant and a more conventient position for the fingerprint sensor. Aside from those mentioned, the upcoming handset might be lacking cool features to stand out. The public's low expectation from the Galaxy S9 might change, however, as SamMobile has reported that the handset will receive an array of slow-motion video capture options, which includes a smart mode wherein the device itself will decide if the recording will shift to slow-mo.

The smart mode of the Samsung Galaxy S9's advanced slow-motion video shooting is connected to the smartphone's artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The AI will tell the camera whether a particular scene is worthy of a slow-mo effect. Users who have no idea when and how to apply the slow-motion shooting will benefit from this feature. There is also another slow-motion shooting mode that allows the user to start the slow-mo effect while recording a regular video. Up to 20 slow-mo frames can be captured using this mode, plus the frame rate can be adjusted quickly between 30 fps and 60 fps.

The new slow-motion video capture setup of the Samsung Galaxy S9 is consistent with the rumors that the upcoming premium smartphone will highlight improvements on the camera department. The early press invitation for the MWC launch of the Galaxy S9 talks about "The Camera. Reimagined," thus giving hints that the handset is packed with impressive snap features. Aside from the advanced slow-mo capture and dual-lens build, the S9 camera lens is also expected to receive an enhanced iris scanning technology.
