The current hot topic concerning the South Korean tech giant, Samsung, is the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus smartphones arriving at the start of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 this February. However, there are already reports regarding the company's next-gen premium phablet, which is slated to launch toward the end of the year. In fact, the product code of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has been recently spotted in the latest Android Oreo beta update.
Tech enthusiasts have been expecting that Samsung is currently working on the successor to the Galaxy Note 8. While the tech firm is quiet about the new features of the upcoming device, XDA Developers has found a proof that Samsung is already geared up for the Galaxy Note 9's arrival. XDA has come up with a list of Samsung product codenames from the leaked Oreo beta version for the Galaxy Note 8 devices. The products in the list are likely to run the latest Android OS version, and for those devices that have yet to hit the market, they are expected to run the new Oreo build out of the box.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is revealed to have the codename "crown" based on the Oreo beta update. This is consistent with the earlier rumors claiming that Samsung has codenamed the upcoming next-gen phablet as Project Crown. The list also shows the product codenames for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, which are listed as star and star2, respectively.
Meanwhile, there are rumors that the Galaxy Note 9 will be a breakthrough for Samsung as it is said to pack a 10nm processor. This will be the second-generation 10nm LPP processor, which is expected to bring significant boost in performance and improved power efficiency. Although, the company has yet to confirm if the production of the 10nm chips has already begun prior to the Note 9 launch. Still the Samsung Galaxy Note 9's reputation as one of the most powerful devices of the year is almost secured, as the upcoming phablet will also receive Qualcomm's latest high-end mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 845.
Lastly, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is speculated to be the first mobile device to boast 4K screen resolution. This is not a far-fetched idea, given that Samsung has been known as the leading handset maker in terms of high-quality screen technology, given its recent innovations with OLED-powered Galaxy devices. It appears that native 4K display will not be exclusive to bigger screens for long, and the Galaxy Note 9 might just be the first to deliver such experience to the users.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is expected to launch sometime in August or September this year.
