Samsung Galaxy Note 9 release date, specs rumors: Upcoming phablet to boast bigger battery, in-display fingerprint reader

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is among the most anticipated high-end devices this 2018. Aside from an immersive widescreen viewing experience, the phablet is expected to sport an in-display fingerprint reader technology. Also, the Note 9 is reported to have a much bigger battery than its predecessor.

A known tech tipster on Twitter known as Ice Universe has shared the latest scoop on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. He claims that the in-display fingerprint sensor technology is now ready to be included in the phablet. Earlier reports have already suggested that the Galaxy Note 9 will boast a special optical reader under the screen, which is a better alternative than having the fingerprint sensor mounted at the rear side.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9's in-display fingerprint sensor will pose a threat to the facial recognition technology in Apple's iPhone X. There were doubts if the South Korean tech giant would succeed in developing an effective under-screen scanner component, knowing that this technology has never been tried in the smartphone industry before. It was even rumored that the Galaxy Note 9 will no longer have an in-display scanner due to manufacturing woes, but Ice Universe's recent tip says otherwise. 

Many people find Ice Universe's leaked info on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 as reliable, knowing that he was the first source of the official Galaxy S8, Note 8, S9, and S9 Plus photos. Ice Universe was also correct in predicting the new features and deisgn changes in the recently launched Galaxy S9 smartphone, particularly the new position for the fingerprint reader.

Aside from an in-display fingerprint scanner, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is also expected to have a bigger battery compared to its predecessor. The upcoming phablet is reported to pack with a whopping 3,850mAh battery cell, which is a 20 percent increase from the Galaxy Note 8's 3,300mAh battery. If verified, the Galaxy Note 9 will feature the biggest mass-produced phone battery from Samsung. 

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is expected to launch sometime in August, which is the same month when the previous Galaxy Note devices were announced. Although, it was tipped that Samsung could have an earlier unveiling of the Note 9 this year. The Investor predicts that the Galaxy Note 9 will be announced as early as July, with the mass production of the device's OLED panel set to commence this April.
