Samsung Galaxy Note 9 release date, specs rumors: August launch expected after trademark filing

Samsung has been quiet regarding the next generation of its Galaxy Note lineup. Still, the public expects that the South Korean tech giant would unveil the Galaxy Note 8 successor later this year. In fact, there are now more solid hints that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will be launched in the coming months, following the recently-spotted trademark filing for the premium phablet.

As reported by Galaxy Club, Samsung has already submitted the trademark documents for the Galaxy Note 9. The company is said to have applied for the Galaxy Note 9 moniker in Columbia very recently, with the trademark filing dated March 12, 2018. At this point, it is almost guaranteed that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is slated for unveiling this August, the month which the previous Galaxy Note devices were launched.

Assuming that Samsung is indeed finished with the trademark filing for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, it is possible that the handset's mass production is now underway.

There are already a few predictions regarding the features of the Galaxy Note 9, although some experts believe that the recently-launched Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones provide some clues on the phablet. For one, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 could have the Super Slow-Mo feature of the 2018 Galaxy S smartphone, as it is believed that Samsung would incorporate the S9's upgraded camera hardware to the Note 9.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is also expected to launch with a new S Pen, although it is not certain if this year's stylus pen will introduce significant changes from the previous version.

Earlier rumors suggested that the Galaxy Note 9 could be the first handset from Samsung to boast an in-display fingerprint sensor technology, but that may no longer happen according to the latest research note of KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

It is reported that the in-display sensors to be used in the upcoming phablet are having issues. The hardware requirement for such technology may not yet be attainable at this point, thus the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will use an advanced facial recognition feature similar to the S9.
