Now that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones are officially unveiled, Samsung has only one premium handset left to reveal in the coming months. The South Korean tech giant is expected to launch the Galaxy Note 9 sometime in August or September, and according to the latest reports, the next-gen phablet will have some of the features already introduced by the Galaxy S9, including the Super Slow-Motion video capture. Furthermore, a recent benchmark listing shows that the Galaxy Note 9 will ship with an improved display that is taller than its predecessor.
As reported by SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has the makings of a very signficiant top-end device, as evidenced by its high benchmarking score from the online HTML5Test site. The phablet obtained a score of 522 out of the perfect 555 points. The browser benchmarking result also shows that the Galaxy Note 9 will sport a slightly taller and slimmer body compared with last year's Note 8. This is due to the handset's 18:5:9 screen-to-body ratio, but in spite of the little changes in dimension, this confirms that the Galaxy Note 9 will sport the same Infinity Display design.
The benchmark listing for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 also shows that the phablet will run the latest Android 8.0 Oreo update out of the box. However, Forbes suspects that this could still change, given that there are roughly six months to go before the Note 9 launch, and it is likely that the device will have the Android 8.1 version instead. The benchmarking result also affirms that the Galaxy Note 9 will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system on chip (SoC), the same high-end processor powering the Galaxy S9 and S9+ handsets.
While not yet confirmed, it is possible that some of the defining features of the Samsung Galaxy S9 will make their way to the Galaxy Note 9 later this year. One of the most likely candidates would be the Super Slow-Mo feature of the 2018 smartphone variant, considering that the Galaxy Note 9 would also use the same enhanced camera hardware of Galaxy S9.
Earlier rumors suggest that the Galaxy Note 9 will be the first handset from Samsung to boast an under-display fingerprint scanner. A leaked patent reveals that the company has already filed for the said technology, in which the device will have an optical fingerprint reader instead of a rear-mounted sensor. It has already been reported that Samsung is negotiating with other tech firms such as Qualcomm and Synaptics to develop the necessary technology for an in-display optical reader.
