'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' rumors: New Darth Vader reportedly chosen

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" seems to have found its new Darth Vader. LucasFilm

A new actor will reportedly don Darth Vader's menacing helmet and black cape in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." The role of one of the most iconic villains in film history is said to have been re-cast with Welsh actor Spencer Wilding snagging the role.

Wilding is a special creature performer who figured in a funny memorable scene in the Marvel blockbuster film "Guardians of the Galaxy" as the blue-skinned prison guard bobbing his head to "Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Swede from Star-Lord's mixtape.

Although the former kickboxing champion will be the guy under Darth Vader's iconic breathing mask in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," fans will still be hearing the voice of James Earl Jones.

The award-winning actor supplied the chilling and now well-known tone of the tyrannical villain in the original "Star Wars" trilogy. At that time, it was David Prowse who wore the Darth Vader costume.

Wilding is quite a presence in the world of pop culture. He appeared in "Doctor Who," "Game of Thrones" and "Batman Begins," to name a few. This time, the 6 foot 7 actor is about to invade the galaxy far, far away in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" as the infamous Darth Vader.

Disney is yet to confirm Darth Vader's presence in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," although previous reports claim the iconic character would not miss out on appearing in the upcoming film.

After all, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is set in a timeline where Luke Skywalker's evil dad still exists. Darth Vader is believed to be the black hooded figure in the trailer for the film with two Imperial Guards, who fans known as the kind tasked to protect the Emperor.

This could be Darth Vader attending to an unseen Emperor Palpatine, who, of course, will be awesome to see in "Star Wars: Rogue One" as well.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will hit the big screen on Dec. 16, 2016.
