'RimWorld' news: Indie colony simulator breaks one million copies sold

Every now and then there comes a game that can actually do Early Access properly, and Ludeon Studios' "RimWorld" is one of those games as the indie sci-fi colony simulator breaks one million copies in sales.

This latest milestone came from a post on Ludeon's website by "RimWorld's" head developer and creator, Tynan Sylvester.

"RimWorld has now sold over a million copies. Platinum status!" Sylvester wrote.

He then proceeds to thank all the other members of the crew that helped develop the game and, surprisingly enough, he also mentions and highlights certain members of the modding community who have helped make "RimWorld" the massive game that it is today.

Sylvester basically thanks anyone who may have even remotely talked about the game and attributes even a tiny moment such as that as part of the game's success.

And, frankly speaking, the game is indeed a huge success. First Kickstarted in 2013, "RimWorld" had less than 10,000 backers at the time, even though it did manage to break its target funding goal ten folds.

Nowadays, "RimWorld" is one of the highest rated games on Steam and maintains an average of at least 5,000 active players on a weekly basis.

What is even more surprising about the game's success is that it is still an Early Access title, it is not even officially done yet. And, outside of a few exceptions, many Early Access titles range from unplayable messes of games to a cheap cash-in from people trying to make a quick buck.

On that note, Sylvester recently posted on the "RimWorld" subreddit that the next major update for the game will in fact be the 1.0 update, officially cementing the game as "complete" and ready to leave Early Access. According to his post, there are hundreds of changes that were made for the final update and they are working to make sure that everything is in top shape for final release.
