The highly anticipated "Resident Evil" sequel will debut on Feb. 17, 2015, if the listing posted on Sony PlayStation Store will turn out to be true.

The website also discussed the pre-purchase details for "Resident Evil Revelations 2 – Complete Season," which is said to include full access to all four episodes as well as the additional complimentary Raid Mode "Throwback" Stage Pack.

During the New York Comic Con last weekend, game producer Michiteru Okabe mentioned that the pre-order period for the PS4 Edition begins on Oct. 14, while the PS3 version will start later in October.

Okabe also announced that all the editions of "Resident Evil Revelations 2" will be launched in early 2015.

This announcement seemed to make Sony's release date claim valid.

However, the Capcom-supervised Resident Evil Twitter account posted early today that the Feb. 7 release date is not confirmed.

The Twitter post said: "PSA: That release date you're seeing for Revelations 2 is just a placeholder! The true date is still unconfirmed."

No details have been released yet by Capcom as of the moment.

Meanwhile, Capcom mentioned that they plan to unveil the episodes of "Resident Evil Revelations 2" on a weekly installment, and then reveal the full game at a still undisclosed date.

On the other hand, Okabe also discussed that Capcom is seriously considering using virtual reality technology for the future installments of the hit survival horror game.

In an interview with Game Informer during New York Comic Con, the game producer said, "Speaking personally, I'm really excited about VR. I think it makes sense. Having gone from 2D to 3D, now it's time to surround yourself in these worlds instead of just having a screen in front of you. It makes sense; the technology is there."

The producer believes that virtual reality is perfect for horror games like "Resident Evil." For him, VRs can increase the game's immersion, which is very significant for all horror games.
