'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date: Former Rockstar employee inadvertently confirms sequel

Rockstar may be working on "Red Dead Redemption 2" after all. Rockstar

Despite Rockstar's radio silence, "Red Dead Redemption 2" may still be on the cards after all. New piece of information has come to light about the sequel that bears indication that the game studio is working on the long-awaited game.

On his LinkedIn profile, Ruben Tavares, a former senior 3D artist at Rockstar, claims to have worked on "Grand Theft Auto 5" and "Midnight Club: Los Angeles" and "Red Dead Redemption 2."

This suggests that before Tavares left the studio, Rockstar was already working on the title. However, since the sighting, Tavares has edited his profile and changed it to "Red Dead Redemption" instead.

He also made sure to write "Midnight Club: Los Angeles" correctly as he misspelled it the first time. This can be seen in NerdLeaks's screenshot of his profile.

Tavares also passed the "Red Dead Redemption 2" entry as an error, explaining in the profile that he "received many good reviews from supervisors but "NOT for spelling."

While his second misspelling issue is deemed perfectly acceptable, some fans still find it curious how Tavares mistakenly types in "Red Dead Redemption 2" instead of just "Red Dead Redemption."

If anything, gamers believe that this is just another confirmation of the Western shooter follow-up coming soon. Rumor has it that Rockstar will make the game official during the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June.

However, a new report claims that Rockstar is opting out from making an announcement there in anticipation of a lower number of attendees at the popular trade show.

While "Red Dead Redemption 2" has yet to be confirmed, the original game's sweeping success is enough for fans to believe that a sequel will be released. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick even called "Red Dead" a "permanent franchise" that his company is looking to nurture.

According to previous reports, the game will be called "Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West" and it will be released early next year.
