Tough times are coming for Ray Donovan and his family in "Ray Donovan" season 4.

It has been months since reports about Showtime's family crime drama surfaced, but fans have been clamoring to learn more about the fourth installment of the series.

At the end of season 3, Ray's father Mickey (Jon Voight) was seen in a major wreck. Fans were concerned that he might not be back in the coming season. But series showrunner David Hollander earlier stated that Voight will still be a part of "Ray Donovan" season 4.

"Mickey always wakes up in a new place, and that place feels permanent until it's not. Boston. Mexico. North Hollywood. And somehow, some way, whatever he is doing, it's going to drag him right back into the heart of Donovan land," Hollander shared with TVLine.

Questions about Katie Holmes's possible return in the series as Paige Finney have been rampant since the third season finale, but Hollander explained that nothing is final yet when it comes to the actress's character.

"I'm never finished with anybody. But her family certainly is not going to be a centerpiece as a plot initially. If something about it becomes relevant to the story and can be additive and bring up more places to explore, sure. I love those actors and characters," Hollander said during a post-season interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

But while Holmes's return to the series is still unconfirmed, Hollander officially confirmed that "Ray Donovan" season 4 will feature Ray's next steps to retrace his past. This will also allow him to develop new relationships in a new city.

"There will be new situations, a new family dynamic, and along the way that will really impact every member of his family and in a strange way conflate with Mickey again. We're really excited about where we're going in season four, it's going to be an emotional, but big and loud and brassy and visually fun year," the series showrunner stated.

At the moment, Showtime has yet to reveal the official release date of "Ray Donovan" season 4 in 2016.
