'Quantico' season 2 spoilers: Simon may return to the show in flashbacks

Simon Asher made the ultimate sacrifice by offering his own life to save the others in the first season finale of "Quantico," but actor Tate Ellington may still be seen when the series returns for season 2.

Series creator Josh Safran told TV Guide that Ellington's character was always the one who would put his own life at risk in a life and death situation. But he admitted that he had a hard time letting go of the actor and the character because they were both close to his heart.

"I would've loved to see Simon for many seasons, but in this situation, it was what's right. I do believe that Simon got to do the thing he most wanted to do -- a selfless act, which is what an FBI agent does," Safran stated. "It felt like an honorable way for that character's journey. But I'm still very sad."

But the series creator revealed that there could still be a chance to see Simon in "Quantico" season 2, if Ellington is still up for it.

"It is my hope that both Josh (Hopkins) and Tate immediately jump onto new projects because they're great actors and they should be working all the time. But if they were available and wanted to come back for flashbacks, I would love to have them. Definitely Simon is very part of Alex's mental state and mindset," he added.

The finale of "Quantico" season 1 also left a question regarding Alex Parrish's (Priyanka Chopra) fate after being dismissed by the FBI because she already became a recognizable figure. But it seems like the fans of the show will not have to wait long to know if she accepted the offer of Matthew Keyes (Henry Czerny) to join him in the CIA.

ABC has yet to announce when "Quantico" will return for its second season.
