PS4 news 2018: New PS4 5.50 beta update comes with new cool features

PlayStation 4's latest, major console update brings its loyal users a taste of new features, enhancements and exciting interface improvements.

The console giant's 5.50 beta update is currently rolling out to select users under its beta program, and while the update is exclusive to those who signed up for the beta release, normal users were not left out.

Mary Yee, Vice President for PlayStation Marketing, announced through Sony's PlayStation blog a preview of the primary updates coming to every console owner's way.

"Even if you are not in the beta program, we wanted to give you a sneak preview of features you can expect in this update. In 5.50, we're introducing Play Time Management, Library UI updates, further enhancements to the Quick Menu, and much more," Yee teased.

According to Yee, the Play Time Management feature will enable parents or guardians to monitor their child's playing time through the PlayStation Network (PSN). Through this new setting, playable hours could be set, controlled and restricted.

In addition to this, parents or guardians could automatically log the child out of the account once the set amount of time has been consumed. "The family managers/guardians also have the option to add extra game time via their smartphone or PC," Yee indicated.

The feature is also accessible through a smartphone or a PC.

Two new additional tabs will be added into the library. This includes a separate tab for purchased and installed games and a secondary tab that comes with an avatar and a username for game titles that a specific PSN ID bought or owns.

In the new update, players can now directly access custom friends' lists from the menu which makes it easier to send friend invites and messages while in-game. When the beta gets released worldwide, players then be able to play music while streaming a game in PS Now. A new setting that enables users to delete past notifications have also been incorporated into the release.

A feature exclusive to PS4 Pro users, super sampling mode enables those with high-definition TVs to tweak the settings of certain games with 4K resolutions to better match their component.

As of present time, there is no exact global release date for the new update.
